"I've never tasted anything so divine!"
"I have to have this recipe!"
While overseas, these were my most famous crowd-pleasing brownies that were especially popular among the young U.S. Marines, away from home. Being invited to my family's home was the greatest treat for each of them and a respite from their intense daily duties. It is with the greatest pleasure and a huge sense of gratitude that I share this recipe. I remember each and every one of these men and women with fondness and admiration for their service and protection in faraway countries.
U.S. Marine Approved Grand Marnier Brownies
One-Bowl Ingredients
Everything you need to make this amazing treat:
1 cup 2 stick unsalted butter melted
1 cup granulated white sugar
1 cup packed soft dark brown sugar
4 large eggs (I use organic or cage-free) lightly beaten
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon Grand Marnier or whatever you prefer
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup Hershey’s unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon instant coffee
¾ teaspoon kosher salt
1 ¼ cup dark chocolate morsels
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Spray and line a 9x13' baking pan with parchment with overlapping edges for an easy lift out.
Using an electric hand mixer, in a large mixing bowl, stir together melted butter, sugars, eggs, vanilla extract, and Grand Marnier until smooth and well combined. Stir in flour and cocoa powder.
Add the salt and instant coffee. Stir until just combined. Do not over-mix. Fold in one cup of chocolate morsels. Spread the mixture evenly into the prepared pan; sprinkle the remaining ¼ cup of chocolate morsels on top of the brownies.
Bake for 25-30 minutes. Do not overbake. The brownies will set as they cool. Remove from oven and allow to cool before cutting into squares. Store in an airtight container and leave at room temperature. Do not refrigerate as they will dry out.
