Autumn Mulled Wine
The very first time I tasted mulled wine I liked it immediately and I knew I would be preparing and serving this oh so delicious warm drink to my family and friends for years. Oh yes, I remember it well. I arrived in Germany on a very cold October or November day and was immediately invited to dinner when our friends introduced me to a version of Wine. Bare in mind that there are other versions of this wine. I can still remember the warm and tart taste of this magnificent beverage. That was many, many moons ago, I will now share my version with you - it’s incredibly easy and simple to prepare.
INGREDIENTS
Dry red wine. I use a Merlot, a brand a found in Trader Joe's. it’s not necessary to use an expensive bottle of wine because the mulling spices pulls the flavor together - You may prefer to use a Shiraz or a Cabinet Sauvignon. They are all good for this recipe.
1 bottle merlot (750 ml)
2 cups apple cider
1/4 cup agave
5 inch piece of dried orange peel or freshly peeled orange ( I keep dried orange peel in a plastic bag in my refrigerator for this purpose)
1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lime juice
6 whole cloves
2 cinnamon sticks
3 star anise
DIRECTIONS
Simmer above ingredients for 10 minutes then strain into glass mugs. Garnish with 1 or 2 whole cloves.
Enjoy!
